On april 10 1834 a fire at the lalaurie mansion in new orleans louisiana leads to the discovery of a torture chamber where enslaved workers are routinely brutalized by delphine lalaurie.

In 1831 madame lalaurie purchased a three story mansion at 1140 royal street in the french quarter. Marie delphine macarty or maccarthy march 19 1787 december 7 1849 more commonly known as madame blanque or after her third marriage as madame lalaurie was a new orleans creole socialite and serial killer who tortured and murdered slaves in her household. People filled with rage at delphine lalaurie since she refused to open her attic to emancipate her slaves and what they saw was appalling. The lalaurie mansion shrouded in a fire in 1834.

In the 1800 s her mansion became the talk of the town and came to be known as a hell hole in which she tormented all her slaves. She married in 1800 to a spanish officer and in 1804 they went to spain.
